Intent, Implementation and Impact

Introduction

Introduction

At Bosley St Mary's CE Primary School, our vision is Every Learner Flourishing, rooted in the words of Philippians 4:13:

“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”

We believe that every child is uniquely created, valued and capable of achieving great things. Our curriculum reflects this belief, providing an ambitious, inclusive and enriching education that enables every learner to flourish academically, personally and spiritually.

Guided by our Christian vision and BEARS values – Believe, Encourage, Achieve, Relate and Serve – we nurture curiosity, confidence, compassion and a lifelong love of learning. Through strong foundations, high expectations and a rich range of experiences, we equip children with the knowledge, skills and character they need to embrace opportunities, overcome challenges and make a positive difference in the world.

Our curriculum is about more than what children learn. It is about who they become, how they treat others and the contribution they make to the world around them.

Our BEARS values

Believe

We believe in ourselves, in one another and in the unique potential of every child. Rooted in our Christian faith, we develop confidence, hope and the courage to face challenges, knowing that with faith, support and perseverance, we can grow and flourish.

Encourage

We encourage one another to take risks, ask questions, learn from mistakes and keep trying. Through kindness, positive relationships and high expectations, we help every child recognise their strengths and achieve things they may not have thought possible.

Achieve

We strive to be the best we can be, celebrating effort, progress and achievement in all its forms. Our ambitious curriculum provides the knowledge, skills and opportunities every child needs to succeed, discover their talents and develop a love of learning.

Relate

We build relationships founded on respect, understanding and compassion. We learn to listen, communicate, collaborate and appreciate differences, developing a strong sense of belonging and recognising our responsibility to care for one another.

Serve

We use our gifts, knowledge and talents to help others and make a positive difference. Inspired by Christian teachings, we develop generosity, compassion and responsibility, learning to care for our school, our community and the wider world.

  • Implementation

At Bosley St Mary's, we bring our curriculum to life through:

    • Carefully sequenced learning: A knowledge-rich curriculum, organised through a two-year rolling programme, that builds progressively on prior learning and ensures clear progression across our mixed-age classes.

    • Developing vocabulary and understanding: Explicitly teaching subject-specific vocabulary, revisiting key concepts and using retrieval practice to help children remember more, make connections and apply their learning.
    • Inclusive and ambitious learning: Maintaining high expectations for every child, using appropriate scaffolding, adaptations and additional support to ensure all learners can participate, achieve and flourish.
    • Independence and resilience: Establishing consistent routines and positive learning behaviours, encouraging children to think, question, persevere and take increasing responsibility for their learning.
    • Enriching experiences: Making purposeful use of our rural environment, outdoor learning, educational visits, visitors and community connections to deepen understanding and bring learning to life.
    • Personal and spiritual development: Weaving opportunities for reflection, creativity, collaboration and service throughout the curriculum, alongside collective worship and religious education.
    • Assessment and responsive teaching: Using ongoing assessment, feedback and regular review to identify misconceptions, address gaps and adapt teaching to meet children's needs.
    • Continuous improvement: Evaluating the quality of teaching and curriculum delivery through professional dialogue, monitoring, pupil voice and staff development.

Through a consistent, inclusive and engaging approach, we ensure that our curriculum is not simply taught, but understood, remembered and applied, enabling every learner to flourish.
